We're Really Not That Close: The Nature of the Inquiry

Real estate prices sky rocketing;
The profits, someone is pocketing.
Beach front property, all over-priced,
Cabin by a lake, could be a heist?

Real estate asking price, yes, I saw.
Now really, there ought to be a law.
The market is a realtor's zoo.
You say, there's premium rates with you?

A city slicker to be mentored?
Bid on the old, log cabin entered.
Perhaps you'll tell me, how close are we?
Not good. No one gets anything free.

How close is 'not that close', yes, right now?
We're really not that close; don't see how...
Don't really want to get rooked, as such.
A huge difference between them, too much.

Your asking price, offer submitted.
Remember no one is committed.
I need to see what you are selling.
Are there a few things you're not telling?

The owner is an old fisherman.
He has been around since time began.
The fishing's good, then let's go there,
Fish right away and then we can share.

How old is the cabin? No one knows.
Once truth comes out, it will disclose.
It is not new for sure, yes, it is old.
You think the weather is turning cold?

Some history on the cabin? None?
Need that before a deal is done.
Is the cabin ready for viewing?
That's better than sitting here stewing.

We can do that, but it may not please.
Are you a realtor, or a tease?
Perhaps the trees have been cut away?
You say, not yet, but maybe someday.

The lake itself, no one cannot see,
Until I have time to cut a tree?
Of course, there is no running water.
So glad now that I have not bought her.

Run to the lake and a bucket take.
To get through the reeds, may need a rake.
Inside the cabin, what's still in there?
A wooden cot, a table and chair.

Can't lock the door because a warped floor?
That may be a problem, something more.
The chimney's plugged, perhaps it's blocked.
No fire, just smoke. With firewood stocked?

A cabin that's nestled in a cove.
Still has it's ancient, pot belly stove.
The man made wine and hid some away,
His cabin, the place where he could play.

Down at the beach, is there now a dock?
I think perhaps we will need to talk.
An old boat with perhaps, just one oar,
I have to ask, were there ever more?

There may be a hole in the old roof.
Water leaking, that's usually proof.
The rain will drip right down on me.
And that would make me frown, I can see.

An open trail, but there's no driveway.
Can we still get in there anyway?
You think there might be a gravel road.
To get in there, your jeep must be towed.

Now I'm asking, how close can we get?
The offer put in, did not forget.
My offer is still on the table,
Of course, I know there is no cable.

The bears will all freely walk on by.
The sea gulls will hover in the sky,
Perhaps they are now hidden from view?
What more is there I can say to you?

You think you might get a better deal?
Right now, this buy could be a steal
Including the cabin and the lot?
Your asking price leaves me so distraught.

The hunting there is really good, too?
Fishing, boating, what else can I do?
By fixing it up, who will then pay?
Now you want to close this deal today.

I do want this place, but need more grace.
There's a lot of work and must save face.
You'll close without another offer?
There's no need to empty my coffer.

A prospective buyer persuades a realtor to accept his offer on a cabin by the lake.
